Chosen for a Purpose
By Rev. Dr. Russell M. Morrow
Scripture: Ephesians 1:3-14
Today's Thought: "We are chosen, redeemed, and sealed for a divine purpose that transcends the shifting circumstances of our lives."
Scripture Focus:
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love." Ephesians 1:3-14
Devotional Reflection:
The world around us is constantly shifting. We've witnessed wars, economic upheavals, a global pandemic, and cultural divisions. In 2025, we find ourselves navigating political and denominational realignments that have reshaped our nation and the Church. Amid all this change, one truth remains firm: God's purpose for your life is unchanging.
Paul's words to the Ephesians remind us that we are chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. Your identity is not defined by headlines, circumstances, or personal achievements. You are defined by God’s eternal plan.
Consider This:
Chosen for Holiness (Ephesians 1:4-5):
God calls us to live lives marked by holiness and love, reflecting His character.Redeemed for a Purpose (Ephesians 1:7-8):
Through Christ's sacrifice, we are set free—not just from sin, but for a purpose: to be agents of His grace.Sealed with the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14):
The Holy Spirit secures our calling, empowering us to stand firm even in uncertainty.
Paul's message to the early church, facing the uncertainty of the Roman Empire, speaks directly to us today. God's purpose has never changed.
A Story to Reflect On:
In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo Baggins feels overwhelmed by his mission. He says to Gandalf: "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
Gandalf replies: "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not what they decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us."
Like Frodo, we may feel overwhelmed by our times. But God has chosen you for such a time as this. You are not here by accident. Your life has a purpose in God's plan.
